Help w purchase 96 xj6
Hi,
I'm looking to buy a 96 xj6 (102k)
looks and runs good.
I've been told I'll be fixing it constantly and repairs will be costtly.
I do some of my own repairs on my car tie-rods/altenators, starters etc..
so I do know the basics, and the motor looks east to work on.
What I want to know is are there alot of repairs on this car?
I would be driving about 80miles daily
Parts seems to be in-line with other cars buying on-line
Just some thoughts and experiences would be great
Yeah and the price is 3500 which I thought was pretty good
one more thing gas mileage?
and what if any damage if I run on reg. unleaded
Please get back real soon, I have to decide real soon
and looking for feedback
Thanks for your time
Joe

RE: Help w purchase 96 xj6
Don't buy the car...Plain and Simple! 80 miles a day is for a honda/toyota/nissan etc. The XJ is a good car, but you can't treat it like a hoe and beat her like that every day! Also, regardless of the car you get, are you driving highway miles or city miles? If they are highway miles, then the more expensive gas actually comes out to about the same thing as the cheap gas since the higher octane gives you better gas mileage, and at the same time it's better for your injectors! For 3500 you could get a nice Honda Civic that'll give you much better gas mileage too!

Fuel consumption for city/highway is 17/25 .I don't think that's too much considering a carthat size of avehicle. If fuel consumption is a concern then don't buy it albeit it's not a gas gussler .
As for not using premium , your engine may get hurt like detonation if it's stated "premium unleaded" .
