Default Hey there

Hi, I'm a 25 year old doctor a year out of med school. Looking to buy my first car (I've never bought a car with my own money before)

Was looking at the Audi A7, Range Rover sport and the XF.

My mom loves Jags and is pushing me to go for the bigger XJ, Which I love but can't afford without help from the rents (she had a Vanden plas in the 90s)

Anyway hope to bond with like minded people over here

Cheers

Oh Man! First off welcome to the forum. I know what I would buy if I were your age with my knowledge of Jags. I would get a low mileage 2006 XKR or XK8 and enjoy life after med school. I gather you are not married. At least you didn't mention a family. A new one would be great but very expensive. The 2006 is the last of the great style of XKR or XK8. After that they look more like an Aston Martin. And by all means make it the convertible. Let us know what you decide.

Hey guys, thanks for the warm welcome, the forum is definitely a great place and so friendly compared to a lot of other forums I've been on so cudos!

I failed to mention a few details in my initial post:

I'm unmaried, and currently single (a Jag would probably change that lol)
Looking to buy the car in December to get good discounts, Australia isn't cheap for cars either!
Will be buying new most likely or slightly used, looking at MY12 or 13 only.

Yes I'm rather lucky to be looking at such great cars, but I've been saving like crazy for the last 2 years, and have the rest of the year ahead to add to the piggy bank, also my parents will be helping me with the down payment, especially if I go for the XJ.

I do love the new XK though, but way out of my price range, and a 4 door sedan/SUV will be much more practical (looking at keeping the car for 5-6 years if I pay 170K USD!!!)

Cheers

Oh for pete's sake! You're 25, a Doctor and single! Why in the world are you looking at "practical"???? You'll have the rest of your life to drive mini-vans and such...but for now, LIVE IT UP!

Welcome to the forum,

I second the excellent advice above, go the XK route, and have fun while you can, your mum will still love you!

Welcome to the forum.

Compared to you I'm now an old fart, but guess what.... Go XK, before you have an army of little ones.

Nice to see you.

GET AN XK!!!! You don't have to get a new one. 2003 thru 2006 are the best years IMHO. Get one with low miles around 20 to 30K. They are out of factory warrantee and the price drops like you can't believe. You can buy a warrantee if need be.

Boy I wish I were in your shoes. You'll have to beat the ladies off with a stick if you get an XK. Not the same with a four door sedan.

Hey sorry for the late reply, I agree with everyone about the XK.

Now just need to see how much I can save up. Getting an XK in oz is rather an expensive deal, even 2nd hand they run about 100K for a good one 03-06. I'll probably look at a new or dealer demo XK-R if it's a slight stretch over the XJ...

I'll keep you guys posted
