Default Hi from Lincolnshire UK

Hi all. A very crusty old supposedly retired engineer and ex house builder. (Old clients still come back for additional work.) We have just bought a very nice 6 year old X type 2L diesel as our first Jag. Now settled down nicely after a hassle with the garage over the MOT (UK roadworthyness test). It came with a brand new certificate but should have failed on several items. Garages !! It's no wonder that I do all my own maintenance.

I thought it worthwhile to sign up as forums can be an invaluable source of advice and guidance. My other big boy's toy is a 1972 MGB GT which I am currently updating; PAS fitted so I can park it without a body building course, re-trimming the inside and a Rover 800 turbo transplant in the near future. The MGOC forum has proved very useful so hopefully this one will also be should the Jag play up.

Although my basic engineering training was electrical I am not looking forward to all those electronics ! So I have purchased the open source software and diagnostics adapter and will try to find out how that works with the laptop before anything does expire.

Welcome to the forum Derek,

That fleet must keep you busier than a full time job.

Follow this link X-Type - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X-Type section where you'll find some very friendly and knowledgeable members.

I'm afraid you're going to have to get to grips with the electronics to be able to do all your own maintenance. Once you grasp the principles, it makes troubleshooting much easier and there's always plenty of help available across the forum.

Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User ID button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
