Hi from New Zealand
Hi all
I am currently in the grip of a foul old Toyota and saving up for my first Jag, I have been lurking here for a while and have learned a lot, so I thought even though I do not have one yet I should join up and say Hi. My horrid old Toyota has cost me an enormous amount of money over the years and still leaks and blows lots of oil, I can't wait to get rid of it. The ten grand it cost me thanks to the actions of my last mechanic would have bought a nice Jag. Oh well....
I am hoping to get a nice clean low mileage X300, from what I read I suspect that would be better than an early X308 and better still than an XJ40....
Anyway, thought I should say Hi so here I am.
See ya

Welcome to the forum Chris,
Good to hear you've already been finding useful information here.
The final years of any model have always benefited from developments and improvements during the production run and the last of the X300's are considered reliable. However, don't discount an early X308 entirely. Provided plastic tensioners are replaced, they are also a good prospect. I've owned both in the past and would have either again.
Enjoy the search and the forum.

Wow, that was a quick reply!
There are a number of X308s available here, I will see what is available in a few months time when I have the money. Two things I want to avoid from now on: car loans and cars with high mileage, so it's a matter of waiting until I have cash for a good low mileage one

Chris,
The time difference between UK and NZ means we're at opposite ends of the same day.
Keep repeating 'service history, service history, service history' to yourself when assessing any prospective Jaguar purchase. Careful and regular maintenance is the secret to a good one and any gaps in the history should be questioned.
Got to agree about car loans - no such thing as an 'easy' monthly payment.

Hi Zathras
I am in Napier, formerly of Ham East
I am 2 months into X300 3.2 ownership, loving it. There are a few X300s around - Ken Stout Motors in Akld had one the other week (a nice LWB V12 if you're feeling adventurous..).
I would go for a good X300 over an early V8 - late AJ16 engine vs early Nikasil V8, X300 interior more traditional dash. But on the end buy on condition.
There have been a few X300s on trademe up in Akld.

Good luck!
