Smile Hi! from a not so new member

Hi there, Everyone.

My name is Kathy and I wanted to say hello and share a little about myself and how I got to the forum.

I live in Richmond, Virginia with my awesome husband of 20 years, Greg, our beautiful, hilarious 7 year old daughter, Fiona and 3 stray cats who adopted us, Mama Cat, Griezel, and Vandal (Yes, she earned that name. No regard for life, limb or property).

Our house was partly renovated/remodeled when we bought it and there's a construction "To Do" list that will still be growing long after we're gone .
My husband has zero interest in handyman DIY stuff, but I'm a do it myself girl and I'll try to tackle any construction/repairs/maintenance that I can.
I love power tools, so Greg is always like, "Happy Valentine's Day, Honey. I got you a circular saw."

Way back in the day, my first job out of high school was as a parts runner for a foreign car parts store and garage (an independent BAP/GEON store if that means anything to you) and for 5 years, I did everything from inventory to service writing and helping out in the garage.
In my opinion, being an 18 year old girl working in a garage was just the best thing ever.
I bought my first car then, a smoke grey 1977 Pontiac Trans Am, if you're curious.
The mechanics did not fix my car for me and so I'm thankful for that.
Instead they took me under their wing and taught me to fix it myself. You could say they didn't give me a fish; they taught me how to fish and I've been at it ever since.
At the garage, I got to experience so many amazing cars up close ("Kathy, take the Austin-Healey out to lunch to see if that noise is gone", etc.), and that's where I learned to love Jaguars.
I dated a guy for 5 years and I swear it wasn't just because of his black/tan '73 XKE convertible. Really.

It wasn't until many years later that I ended up with a Jaguar of my own.
In 2008, I was expecting my daughter so it was time to trade my little pick up for something that would accommodate a carseat.
My uncle had a white/tan 2004 XJ8 he bought at auction and something came up where he needed money fast, so he sold it to my cousin, who quickly realized he didn't need 3 cars.
He asked me to help him find a buyer for the Jaguar by driving it to work and parking it out front of the busy place I worked and it didn't take long.
At the end of the week I wrote him a check and it's been love and repair bills ever since.

I found this Jaguar forum about 2 years ago when I did an internet search for an issue and ended up on a forum thread.
After poking around a little, it looked like not only an awesome resource, but a community of friendly, smart, unique, funny and often very kind people, so I joined with intentions of participating and checking in often.

Well, life sure has a way of stepping all over good intentions and I've spent the past few years dealing with some health issues on top of all of the other stuff life throws at you, so the forum didn't get the attention I'd planned.
And neither did my car. I've either put off non-essential repairs or just had the mechanic fix things and paid whatever it cost.

It's now State Inspection time again and the car has several quirky issues that need to be fixed for it to pass.
Every time we drop another thousand or two, or three on the car, my husband suggests yet again that maybe it's time to sell.

To avoid having that unpleasant discussion again, I'm taking a whack at some of the problems myself.
Since I'm going to be up to my elbows in it and using the forum for guidance, I wanted to do it properly and share the process, so that my experiences, good and bad, will contribute what it can to the forum.

I'll post details of these in the appropriate places, but here's a quick run down of the issues:

Coolant reservoir tank - the little plastic nozzle the hose connects to broke off.

New wiper blades (the kind with the air deflectors and washer nozzles),

Driver's seat airbag sensor light flashing 2-2

Driver's window inoperative
In trying one of the tricks suggested here to troubleshoot the driver's window that wouldn't go down, I got it to open.....and now it won't close. Ha!

I'll be posting with all of that and anything else I run into.

Right now I've got the door card off and the front seat out, so I'd better get back to it. Wish me luck!

Come along for the ride!

Thanks to everyone here for their time, energy, and patience.

Kathy

It sounds like you've already found your way to the X350 forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

So happy to see another female jag owner who isn't afraid to ruin her manicure and get dirty working on their beloved car. Welcome aboard!
