bought this xk8 with a bad tranny for mom while I was building her a Nova. Been driving it 6 months. She like it so much I'm afraid she won't go to the nova. new tranny was $2500, had to rebuild all the strut mountings top and bottom front and back.
the top sprung a leak now it just stays up and I had to blank off the right rear window.
It's got a few dash lights one says misfire on all 8 cylinders the other says the brakes traction control is not operating. I may try to repair them but not sure.
The air works and it takes her back and forth to work.
What else could I want?

Welcome to the forum, Andy. What a familiar story... Back in high school, I had a 66 Mustang coupe and some years ago I got nostalgic and shopped for another. So often I heard the story from sellers "Well, I bought/restored it for my <wife, girlfriend, daughter, other female relative> but she never drives it so now its for sale." I guess maybe Carroll Shelby was right that it was a "secretary's car" as nearly half the Mustangs for sale at that time, that was the story. Indeed the one I bought the guy tells me that his daughter drove it in high school in the 80s so since he was a gearhead he kept it, eventually had it professionally restored and gave it back to her as a gift in 2006. She drove it once at the party and never even took it home to her house. When the recession hit in 2009, she needed the money and asked him to sell it for her.

I guess guys want their women to participate in their car hobby and think that by giving the woman a classic car of her own that will get her interested. But classic cars are hard to drive compared to modern and women often don't feel safe in them. Manual drum brakes, manual steering, no air conditioning or dodgy R134 conversions, crank windows, no power locks, no infotainment, no back-up camera, no airbags, no shoulder belts, only lap belts, etc., etc.

You'll have to post your technical questions in the appropriate subforum, but your story just sounded so familiar that I had to reply. Maybe if you're building a pro-touring Nova with all the modern easy-to-drive conveniences, but otherwise you may have better luck to fix up the Jaguar for her (its a modern classic) and go ahead and build the Nova for yourself. After all, admit it, isn't that what you are really doing anyway?

If I had my choice between a Nova and a Jaguar of Any sort, there would be No Question which I would rather drive.
Put me firmly on your mom's side of this issue (if there are sides to be taken).

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
