Howdy from Texas
Hey there y'all. My name is Logan and I live near Corpus Christi, Tx. I'm in the process of buying a 1993 XJ6 4.0L. First I have to get a key made, as the current owner lost his only copy. I guess my first question as a new member is, how much will that cost me? Lol. Anyway, I look forward to learning and seeing y'alls Jags. I'm sure I'll have many more questions as I begin working on mine.

Hello, Logan,
How much a new key will cost depends on a lot of things, I re-keyed a car myself once (a Plymouth but the principles should be similar),which involved removing the ignition switch and disassembling the lock; then I put in pins (made a couple from 1/8inch brass brazing rod) that fit a key I already had for another Chrysler product. Much to my surprise, it worked Perfectly until I got rid of the car.

Welcome, post your question in the xj40 forum and you'll have your answer. There is at least one company that will make copies of your key for $40 each- of course requiring you can supply the code or pics of a key. There is also a Tech bulletin on re-keying your cylinders- to any code- so you're not out of luck, you just have to be creative.

Welcome to the forum Logan,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
You will be relieved to hear that a new key for your XJ40 will cost considerably less than one for any later model Jaguar. Tens of dollars rather than hundreds of dollars.
Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj40-xj81-25/ to the XJ40 forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
Please add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Thanks for the info y'all. I'm 2 1/2 hrs from the nearest jaguar dealership, but they said they can make my key for around $20. Think I'll make the trip to San Antonio next weekend. I'm really excited about this car. I hope it's a simple fix, but if it's not, it looks like I'm in the right place .
