Greetings to everyone on this forum.
My name is Robert and I reside in Chicago. I have currently acquired a one owner 2004 Jaguar X JR (130,000miles). It was serviced appropriately over the years. However, I plan to do most of the work that is within my purview on this car.
I previously owned a 2001 Jaguar XJ8 which was another fantastic experience up until I wrecked it last year. (Note to self, when you're driving, drive).
I have placed aside some funds for general maintenance and am ready to change the brakes and rotors all around. I've been to this forum on numerous occasions and also checked out YouTube for helpful videos. I have some concern about the rear parking brake. (Some threads say you need a special tool, others not). Some say that you can use needle nose pliers to retract the caliper piston in the parking brake, while others say a special tool as needed. It is my understanding that when the car is turned off, the parking brake is engaged. This may be problematic when changing the parking brake pads with the new rotor? Others have said to disconnect the battery to disengage the parking brake? I would like to clarify this and get any and all information related to changing the parking brake so as not to run into any significant problems along the way.
Second, I took the XJR and put it on a lift to check the front suspension, bushings, and air suspension. Everything looks A-OK but I am experiencing some louder than usual noises at slower speeds going over bumps, and at higher speeds some lateral movement in the car when hitting low bumps. Since all of the suspension around the wheels is good, am I missing something else?
Thank you in advance for any and all information and I will be sure to post pictures of this most wonderful performance luxurious car shortly.
