Default I found a gem

Hi guys, my name's John. I'm 19 years old,

I've always loved mustangs and I've owned a few already. I'm far from some dumb kid wrecking cars as this would suggest, though. I buy dirty diamonds and polish them up. I was offered a 1985 jaguar xj6, basically sight unseen by a friend of a friend for $250 and I'd only seen pictures, knowing the transmission was blown and it sat for 2 years under a tarp in a field. I bought it, and went to tow it home. It sat for about 5 months, and then my engine blew in my 1999 mustang. I found a trans in about two minutes flat for way too cheap, and after $600 of filters fluids and install, a blown master cylinder, a damaged brake booster, blown transducer, some broken light covers, and some love I have a well running jaguar. It has 81,312 miles on it and it came with all service records until 2015, at which time it had 65,000 miles on it. To my understanding I am the fourth owner of this 1984 francorchamps 24 hour championship winning beautiful cherry red beast and I don't think I can ever go back to a car that was not so elegantly designed.

Welcome to the forum John,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums. A well rescued cat.

Follow this link
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...s-i-ii-iii-16/ to the XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Assuming that plate is Washington State and not DC, you can also visit the US Northwest Region forum by following this link
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-northwest-64/ to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Thanks for the warm welcome! My first and most obvious question to most of you would be, how might I tell if I own a sovereign or Daimler model jaguar? thanks in advance!

You are in the US so it is extremely unlikely you have a Daimler. Jaguar do not have the rights to use the Daimler brand name in the USA (Mercedes own it) and imports are almost unheard of.

I can tell from the front grille yours is a Jaguar - the Daimler grille is fluted as seen on this UK model:

Sovereign is a trim level. It is the "standard" for the USA. The top of the range is VdP (Vanden Plas). There is usually an appropriate badge on the luggage compartment lid. If the badge is missing, the Sovereign has a single full width rear seat, the VdP has separate rear seats with a centre console which will help identify it.
