Cool I missed my XJS ... so I bought a couple of XJ8s

My newish big cats are 2001 XJ8 with 148K miles and a 2004 VandenPlas with 109K miles. I used to think I was pretty good at buying used cars, but this experience has shot my confidence to pieces.
The 2001 (Adriatic Blue) my wife calls Jolene and the 2004 (Onyx) she calls Oxana.
I do wonder why you can't find good Jag sedans at the prices the KBB and NADA claim they are worth. All the examples I've found are easily 30% over the so called book value. I probably paid 2k-3k too much for them especially with what I've had to do to make them drivable.
Oxana: The intake manifold coolant line $650, thermostat $50, radiator $350, plugs and coil packs $589; and shes throwing suspension faults.
Jolene: Alternator $230, battery $210, and transmission $4375.

By the by, I have 1956 Chevrolet 210, 1957 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud, 1965 Chevrolet Caprice and 1965 Chevrolet Impala SS. My family and I do the local car shows with them all

Good luck.

Hello,
Congratulations on your new Jaguars!
In my experience, both buying and selling, a car is *Worth* exactly what someone will pay for it. People buy cars for different reasons, and depending on those reasons, will pay more for what they *Want.*

I sold an Ancient classic once for about 5x its stated "worth" because the guy "had been looking for one of those for years."
I nearly had to give away another one in pretty good condition with about 100k good miles left in it because they were as common as sand.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
