Default I'm a "Howdy" too

Hi, I'm Don and I'm a ..., oops, wrong meeting. Anyway, in spite of Gus and the other techs on this forum, I got a new (to me) 1999 XK8 with a for real 39,600 miles on it. I've had Triumphs for the last few decades, still have a TR8 that needs a new home now that I have this, wouldn't want any sibling jealousy thing going. Couldn't pass it up since the old guy I bought from (at least 2 or 3 years older than me) was so **** about it. My new Ridgeline last year wasn't a clean as this and he apologized that the engine was slightly dusty! Only used to haul his golfing sticks to the area links. Stored in heated garage every winter while he went off to CA, put in new battery, new tires and oil change for selling it. Did the Carfax thing just to verify mileage and type of title. Not sure he was thrilled at me checking for high speed vibrations though. No evidence of green monsters or bad noises from the front of the engine though he has had the thermostat and housing replaced. All three keys but one of black ones is missing the chip, bummer. He thought $150 for new key was a little rich, 'spect I agree too. Since book prices don't seem to match reality very much, I thought $12.5K was pretty reasonable even knowing I should replace a hose and get the pressure relief. I'm a retired USN submariner and also retired from Exelon Energy on the way.

Welcome Don!

Replace the secondary chain tensioners on the engine before you worry about the top hoses and pressure relief !

Welcome to the forum Don,

Follow Charlie's or Norri's link to the XK8/XKR tech section. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top there is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Enjoy the forum.
