Intro - New 1999 XJ8 Vanden Plas Supercharged owner
Howdy, Jaguar Forums.
I've already found a lot of the info here helpful in the last couple of weeks, so I reckoned I'd sign up with an actual account. I just bought an Emerald Metallic Green 1999 Jaguar XJ8 Vanden Plas Supercharged with 83,500 miles. It's beautiful inside and out, and drives like a dream. It was a one-owner car from Minnesota according to its CarFax report. My wife and I plan to use it as our "long road trip" car, and to occasionally ferry her folks around Metro Detroit. The smooth ride and extra room in the backseat are perfect for what we needed.
It does put out a bit of smoke on cold startup, so I'm sure I'll need to keep an eye on how much oil it burns. Hopefully I'll get a lot of happy miles before I have to do something expensive.

Hmmn ... looks like the "My Garage" feature could use a few classic British brands: MG, Triumph, etc. I was going to add my other British car to my garage, my 1976 MGB roadster, but MG isn't an option.
Oh well, I reckon I'll post a photo here in this intro thread, anyways. The MGB is actually a 50th anniversary edition (built in '75, titled in '76) with the overdrive transmission. It's been a lot of fun on sunny days.

Welcome to the forum Patioboater,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
The V8's often put out steam from the exhausts on a cold start in damp weather but burning oil is very unusual.
After your recent reading you probably already know your way to the tech section but if not, follow this link XJ ( X308 ) XJ8 / XJR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X308 forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the US Mid West Region forum by following this link USA Mid West - IL IN IA MI MN MO OH WI - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forums.
