Default Intro - Steve Holt

Hi,

I've joined as I bought a 2006 X-Type 2.1ltr V6, it has 70,000km and is in great condition, until. It won't start, I get Security Failure coming up on the screen in the dash-board. The car has been to the Dealers in Perth, WA 3 times and now they reckon I need an Instrument Pack around $2000, so not feeling too good about owning a Jaguar at the moment

welcome to the forum and the Jag family - sorry to hear of the dilemma with the cat. Have you tried an indie mechanic in the area? The folks in the NW regional section may be able to advise on a good indie

recommend checking out the X-Type section X-Type - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum for how to's tsb's etc.

If it is indeed the instrument pack, you may be able to find parts cheaper through one of the preferred vendors.

When time permits - add a signature to your profile by going to the user cp link in the upper left (include model and year) to ensure accurate assistance from the techs

Welcome to the forum Steve.

You need to find someone who has the dealer level diagnostic system. The cheapest way out of this would be to buy a secondhand instrument cluster & get it programmed to the car. Of course Barbagallo's could do this but they will probably be reluctant to fit a secondhand cluster.

If you swap the cluster without programming you'll be in the same position, security error & no start, it has to be programmed (along with the keys, the engine ECU, and a few other interconnected modules).

Are there any independant Jaguar or Land Rover specialists in Perth? They should have the necessary equipment & might be willing to fit secondhand parts...
