Default Introduction of myself

Dear fellow Jag owners.

I have already posted a "Problem" on my XK8 and already have had answers - which are useful.

I have always had a dream about Jaguar - a rich guy - neighbour at my grandmothers summerhouse - had a new Jag XJ6 from 1973 (in 1973 - he bought it from new - burgondy red with black vinyl roof) I admired it very much - I was 10 years old :-) )

In 2005 I bought my first Jaguar XJ6 (x300) which was the first Jaguar I dared buying - I bought it in Germany as the cars down there has no rust compared to Denmark - and they are three times cheaper (anyway you have to pay 180% car tax to import them to Denmark) - I still have it - and never had a problem with it.

Just this summer I bought another dream - a Jaguar XK8 cab. - also in Germany - from a cardealer that just wanted to get rid of it - as it had a knocking sound when cold - I took a chance and bought it - called the previous owner and met with him in Berlin................nice guy having his own Pharmacy.

Now Im strucling to find out what the problem is with my new jag - BEFORE paying the registration tax of 180%.

For you guys who are not familiar with Denmark - and especially the US guys - I just want to give you some examples of how the prices in our country are.

Car tax is 180% and VAT is 25% - this means that a car that costs 100 in e.g. Germany will cost just over 300 in Denmark

Our income tax starts at 50% and goes up to 65% - some years ago the income tax could go as high as 74%.

A big bottle of coke (1.5 liter) costs around 5$ (yes five)
A Big Mac cost around 5.5 $ (NOT a menu - only the burger)
A Iphone 5 with 64GB will cost 1200 US$
1 US Gallon of petrol costs 9 US$

Why do I live in Denmark??? I have asked myself that question a million times - but perhaps because I speak the language so well :-)

But never mind things are expensive - to compensate for that we have a cold and rainy climate :-)

Looking forward to be a part of this forum.

Best regards Niels Juul-Jensen

(I posted a thread with Jaguar XK8 with knocking sound)

Welcome to this friendly Forum, Niels and thanks for the fascinating intro.
I've spent some time in various Nordic countries - delightful people with a very 'British' sense of humour but I can see why the Vikings wanted to get away!
I see you've found your way around and glad you've already had some help.
There's a European Region forum here
Europe - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
as well.

ps I've removed your duplicate posts since things were getting messy.
Your XK8 post is here

Welcome to the Forum Niels,

Great Intro - prices information helped me to reduce my holiday destination list!

I see you're already getting advice on the engine in the XK8/XKR section. At least you can fix this before having to the pay the enormous registration tax.

Hope the XK8 is soon running sweetly.

Enjoy the forum.

Graham

Thanks Steve,

Assume you are in France - lucky you because of the weather and the girls......

I like the british humor as well - and you are right it is understated as is the danish humor.......a bit sarcastic also :-)

Learned that when I took my MBA in Cranfield, Milton Keynes (60 km north of London)

Thank you again - brgds Niels

You can call me Cambo, that's the name I got in high school, shorter than Cameron.

Funny thing is, there is another member on the forum from Switzerland with the name Crocodile62, and he is actually Swiss...

Do they still have those hotdog stands in the Copenhagen center? Last time I was there all I could get to eat on the street was hotdogs...pretty good though!

Hi Cambo,

Good to hear that Crocodile Dundee in some form hasn't left Europe....:-)

And yes we still have the hotdog stands - its part of danish culture :-)

Just wanted to welcome you 'officially' here! I have a soft spot for other XK8 owners

Though I'd love to visit Denmark, with your sales pitch, I don't think there's a snowball's chance I'd name it 'home'. At least you have a good sense of humor and focus on other facets of life to enjoy.
