Red face Introduction, not too late, I hope

I posted yesterday without introducing myself, my bad. My name is Jim Holst and I live in Eugene, Oregon. I am XX yrs old ( let's just say I don't get carded any more).

I have a 1995 XJR, about 150,000 miles, dark red with white interior. Engine is the 4.0L straight six with SC. It has been a garage-queen so the paint and interior are in great condition, no rust anywhere. The usual things that don't work are there, e.g. the clock, the dimming mirror, seat memory, and sun roof tilt. I really don't need those though I may fix some of them.

My son owned the car and he did quite a lot of maintenance type work on it. He rebuilt much of the front steering and suspension, brakes, wheel bearings, shocks, and things like the radiator supports and hoses. Unfortunately not the octopus so that is still original. He replaced the headliner and had new Kumho tires put on. He also refinished the leather passenger seat. So when he needed a car which could haul his family and 3 dogs, I bought the Jag. It was too beautiful to let out of the family!

The Jag has been very reliable. It uses no oil, starts right up even when it hasn't run in several weeks. Only two problems in several years of ownership. The first was a parasitic drain on the battery caused by a sticking door/key in switch in the ignition switch (which I fixed) and a leaking steering rack. The Sports Car Shop, a local indie, did the rack. I can recommend them. The throttle sticks at idle sometimes but getting to the throttle body on an XJR is hard so I just live with that for now.

I had the rack and power steering pump replaced and the handling became very much better. The car is used mainly for trips and too few of those lately. I sometimes think I should let someone else enjoy the car and then I get in it, smile, and just go.

My other cars are two older Volvos and a Ford F-150 pickup. I'm a pretty good Volvo fixer-upper but only have limited Jag experience. I do have lots of electronic tech experience so maybe I'll be able to help this forum with that sort of thing. Well this has gotten to be pretty long winded, I''ll keep it shorter in the future.

Welcome to the forum Jim,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums. Great Intro!

I can see you've already found your way to the X300 tech forum so there's no need for a link.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
