Default Jag XJR Project

New to the forum, procured a 99 XJR that needed some work.

Supposedly needed a radiator, figured I could fit a used one rather than a new one for near $1k.

Thing is, doesn't appear to have any active coolant leaks.

Plenty of oil leaks though.

Already sourced a water pump and thermostat, thinking I would need to crack the cooling system.

Service history did not include secondary tensioners, so I ordered those and the early valve cover gasket kit.

Turns out this car must have the AJ27 engine instead of the AJ26. A bit confusing, given the photos I looked at comparing the throttle bodies. No VVT to look at on an XJR.

But regardless, the valve covers have black gaskets and no way to fit the twin spark plug gaskets, so I guess this has to be an AJ27.

Does this mean I don't have Nikasil cylinders?

The only enlightening thing on the service history was that the Throttle body had been replaced, and the valve cover gaskets replaced three times.

Also, good news, the improved metal-bodied secondary tensioners are already installed. So now, I have a brand new AJ26 valve cover gasket set and tensioners with bolts to put up in the classified section.

Is there any way to tell if the primary/lower timing chain tensioner has been replaced, looking from the top end?
