I'm new to this forum but have had this 1989 XJS V12 for several years. Mostly it's been in the garage with very little mileage. I had professional work done to replace a power steering hose and repair the steering rack. I've recently retired and have more time and desire to learn more about how the car is put together and do the work myself. I appreciate the info members have shared as it's helped me isolate some aspects of an existing problem. Hopefully I can contribute things I've learned along the way.

Welcome to the forum. Your car and mine look like identical twins. One thing that I've learned about working on the car is not to fight it. Things will take as long as they do. I had to remove the coolant lines from the transmission when I replaced it. I was only able to turn the wrench one eighth of a turn at a time. At first it drove me mad, then I just told myself that I'll be doing this for a bit and continued. The other thing that I haven't quite learned is that you've got to be willing to invest some money in the car. These have traditionally been low priced as collector cars for many years. This has lead me to be very hesitant to spend the necessary money to bring it up to snuff. You can't have any nice car for pocket change, but the cheapskate in me believes otherwise. This really hurts my cars progress. Good luck with your projects, there's a world of help in this forum.
