Jag Master:
I've got an 06 X Type 3.0 that has a noticable drive train whine at interstate speeds. My dealer is telling me it's normal for this model. Am I getting the straight skinny on this. The 03 2.5 I used to have was dead quiet.

RE: Jaguar Master Technician and also new here
we have had some issues (on the older x-types especially) with a rear diff whine (some of the newer ones have done this as well) there is an insulation kit available to help deaden the drivetrain noise (it fits under the trans tunnel in between the heat shield) but i beleive the 06 comes with this from the factory.
you can ask the servicing dealer to refer to tsb numbers xt205-01, xt100-03, xt100-09, and xt100-11. i can not post these tsb's on a public forum due to there is a possibility jaguar would slap my wrist for doing so [&:] all these tsb's refer to driveline noises at highway speeds regarding the rear differential.
without hearing your noise, i can only go on what you are telling me. but in my honest opinion, the rear differential is the culprit and we have replaced quite a few of them over the years for whining at highway speeds. let me know if i can be of any further assistance! if you are in the fort pierce area, you can bring your jag on by and i can look at it for ya! just a thought... GOOD LUCK!

RE: Jaguar Master Technician and also new - question
Hi, I just joined and maybe you can help me. I want to buy a previously owned Jaguar, spending about 10-12K. I have been looking at the XJS mid 1990 models. Someone told me that the routine maintenance (oil change, etc.) cost about $500-$900 each. Is that correct? Also, can I expect lots of mechanical problems as the reputation suggests? Thank you.

RE: Jaguar Master Technician and also new - question
the XJS is a pretty decent car. however, the maintenance cost are pretty steep 30, 60, 90k services. those figures seem right. mid 90's xjs's had a problem with ac evaporators leaking and also some had diferential problems. both are expensive repairs. aj16 motors also had a problem with coils going bad etc. over all it is a nice car and a very classy car! but the maintenance costs are significantly higher than other automobiles. just food for thought! best of luck to ya!

Hi Jag Master,
I just joined also and I have a question about remote starts. The Jag dealer informed me that they do not recommend the installation of remote starts. They claimed that there are numerous problems with electrical and starter problems. What is your take on this.
I just purchased a 2002 x-type 3.0.
Thanks

Hello Jag Master,
Sent you an email regarding my recently purchased '03 S Type. I bought the car very cheap from a wholesaler so I am on my own with any needed repairs. The car is a 3.0 with everything including NAV. The Xenon, and trunk release problems are figured out. The only prolems left to sort out is the occational "lurch" when sarting or stopping, the rain sesor wipers and most critical, the climate control.
The climate control:
On the drive home the other night after picking the car up. We where getting cooked in the car. With Auto either on of off the car got very hot inside at anything over the "Low" setting. On "low" temp, we froze. We ended up having the temp set at 61 and drove with the windows cracked to vent the heat. there was also some hot air coming from the dash vents. the next morning I cycled all the controls many times and everything seems to work except it will eventually lose control of the temp setting and blow cold air. Raising the temp to around 80 will get the heat to kick back in, but setting it back to 70-74 will eventually get you back into the '50's (it has been around 32 degrees out for the pat few days). the best way to drive the car now is set temp to around 80 and take it off Auto by setting the fan speed to low. All the controls and touch controls seem to operate and their are no error messages. Could it be a bad temp sensor in the car? The outside temp reading on the dash is accurate (if that matters).
The occastional Lurch: it is not too bad just very occationally. Take to dealer for a re-flash?
Rain sensing wipers: don't come on in "Auto" when wind shield is covered in water. Everything else regarding the wipers is fine. This is not a critical issue but is there a common fix? Never mind, I am an idiot, missed a line in the owners manual, works fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. It sure is nice having someone on the board that has experience working on these cars!

RE: Jaguar Master Technician and also new here
Hello Jag Master, I've owned for 14 month '99 XJ8L acquired with 105K mi, now at 116.8K. Got at a good price, replaced front L ball joint, new tires, battery, small gaskets in heater, etc. but lately big problems with loosing compression. Dealer says is it piston and piston rings and need to rebuild engine.Get restricted performance light and "racing" of engine with knocking sounds too. How big a job is this and are there any alternatives? thanks for any insight you may have.

Thanks JagMaster,
I questioned the dealer a second time and they informed me that a particular remote installer was my best bet. Apparently there had been numerous issues on Land Rovers and Jags which places the repair in the gray area of whether it is the remote or jag elec. issue.
They still wish I don't install one. Since it is not a major need for me - I think I will fore go it for now.
Thanks a lot.
Peter

Glad to have you aboard. My sunroof is giving me a headache. Like a dummy I turned off the car while the sunroof was in the process of closing now it will not work right. Can you tell me how to correct it? Thanks you.

Hey Jag Master,
Hope all is well. I purchased a 03 X Type 2.5 with 37K miles about 10 days ago. What is the best way of finding out if all TSBs has been done on it? At this point, there is the remaining warranty and I want to make sure I get everything done. Also, once the warranty runs out, do the dealers fix repairsfor free foradditional TSBs that are posted?
Here are few very minor things i have noticed;
1) What is your take on paint peeling off on the bumpers? Is this something the dealer can fix for free?
2) Air Vents on the dashboard are loose, looks like they keep popping up, any suggestions? Dealer fix?
3) Right front speaker not working, a dealer fix?
4) Gas cap, not attached to the car, i think it is broke, dealer fix?
5) Driver seat, rocks back and forth when I brake
6) Dashboard light dimmer control knob not working properly....it blinks when i touch it.
7) Engine loud at high speeds, is this normal? RPMs under 3 so I am thinking this is fine.
Thanks a lot....

OK I have a good one for you, I have a 2004 S type v8, with the key on or off , I can get a girgling "coffee pot sound" coming from the vents or "heater", Does it when Its cold or hot. Sounds like a damer flutter from wind etc. Wierd and the dealer hasn't made a sound at the dealer now for 2 days. I still believe it might be a damper loose, No squirl in cage according to Jag.
Thanks

Jamzs, the girgling sound is the in-cabin filter which continues to filter the air in the car after the car is turned off. It turns on again once you open the doors. If you actually stay inside the car a little bit, you'll hear the sound go away, and turn on again when you open the door or soon there after.

Hi Jag master and welcome to the forum
Always nice to add to our steadily growing number of Jag techs on this board. I'm sure you'll enjoy the forum and the members will welcome your input I'm sure.
Jagtechohio has been very helpful since he joined as I'm sure you will be looking at your post. Hopefully after a short while with some frequent visits and no doubt sound advice to add to the existing tech certified Jag techs we can look at getting you ceritfied if you so wish.
All the best
