Jaguar, by way of 2003 Ford Thunderbird

Hi,
"My name is John".
Three years ago I was riding my Indian motorcycle along as proud and happy as anyone could be on a sunny June afternoon, when a 4 point buck stepped out of the brush and we shared a "big bang".
I only tell you that to tell you how I'm ending up buying a Jaguar.
Well, My bike was totalled and since Indian was building bikes to sell, as fast as they could, I didn't know how long it would be until I could be riding again (also the Doctor said it was going to take months for my cracked ribs to heal, even if my lacerated kidney healed before that).
Well, I had to have something for the rest of the summer, so I bought a 2003 Ford Thunderbird.....fabulous car.......
So, what does that have to do with Jaguar. Well I had to do a few things to the "Bird" and came to see that Jaguar had influenced that car greatly, to say nothing of the engine and transmission being Jaguar.
On a recent road trip, I was loving the car so much, I started wondering if I'd love a Jaguar just as much, so, I'm going to find out.
I'm buying a 1999 XK Convertible. It's got some "issues" which have exhausted the current owner, but, I think I can deal with them and end up with a great car.
I hope you are going to tell me I'm right.
I hope you are going to help me make you right.
The first thing we've got to do is get the top working......Where's the "top" thread?

Welcome to the forum - I've moved your intro to it's own thread vice at the end of someone elses.
You will find a wealth of info and support here. As you have found the XK8/R section - take note of the first few threads there as they contain downloads, how to's and other extremely useful tips to keep the cat running.
for regional/local news/events, check out the US NW regional section:
US Northwest - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
Lastly - recommend adding a signature to your profile by clicking the user CP link in the upper left - include model and year to ensure best responses to your questions
enjoy

Welcome to the forum John,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
I can see you've already found your way to the XK8/XKR forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
Enjoy the forums.
Graham
