Cool Jaguar X-Type 2002 P0171B

New Member to this site, San Diego, original owner of a Jaguar X-Type 2002, 128k miles, yay. Computer readout error code P0171B (bank 1 system too lean), dash states check engine light, sometimes display reads "cruise control is not available at this time"...the engine occasionally boggs down when accelerating and feels like it is limping. Tech cleared codes and test drove but listed code came back again. Tech is a transmission specialist & stated def not tranny. Any more info on this? Can I still drive it a bit more? Cost of repairs? Can other techs other than dealer work on this problem / me? Suggestions please...
