Four factors you have not mentioned which significantly influence value:

1. Convertible or Coupe
2. Normally Aspirated or Supercharged
3. Mileage
4. Documented service history

I would be extra cautious with that number of owners and, unless you have the knowledge, expertise and facilities to carry out a detailed assessment yourself, seriously consider paying for an independent inspection report by a recognised marque specialist. This will almost inevitably reveal items requiring attention and the cost can be factored into the negotiation.

After all that, if in doubt - walk away. A used Jaguar which has been well maintained is a pleasure to own but a neglected one is always a money pit. There's both good and bad out there. Make sure this is one of the good ones.

I would be Very Wary, in fact Suspicious of a car that's had 7 owners in 25 years, even if it is RED!.
That tells me there's something wrong with it that No One, not even the Factory can fix.
You need to just Walk Away from this one.

Thank you to the people who responded to my query about a fair price for a 1999 red Jaguar XK8. I have never owned a Jaguar. Should have added: 7 previous owners, not super charged, convertible, 135,000 miles, includes maintenance records, numbers match, good paint, interior leather looks pretty good. Owner wants $15,000. I thought $7000 - $8000 would be a good price. One person who responded was concerned about 7 previous owners - my thoughts exactly. I was just wondering what a fair price would be considering 135,000 miles and 7 previous owners. I am about to walk away. Just didn’t want to miss the opportunity to own a Jag at a fair price.

The Third Rule of Acquisition plainly states:"Never pay more than you have to."
Personally I wouldn't pay more than $6000 (start at $5000 as I could always go up but the RED might catch me), and it would have to nearly spotless inside and out for me to part with that much coin for a car with that many previous owners. That averages out to only about 5400 miles per year, or 19000 miles per owner, new owner every 3.5 years. Not much use.

However. In the current Used Car market in your area (which you haven't mentioned) $7000 or $8000 might be a fair price.

first check the CARFAX if Salvage walk away, if more than one accident or damages, walk away, if mileage inconsistencies, walk away, if long periods of no services that the owner can’t document, walk away! Purchase an OBD II (cheap on internet) and check car for codes before and AFTER you drive it! Operate the top frequently as problems (and green rain) are a pain! Make sure the history documents tensioners and WP update! Good luck!
