Hi All,

I wasn't really shopping for a Jag, but found a 2004 XJ Vanden Plas with just 81,000 miles that I just fell in love with. I'm about to head up to the hills in Southern California to properly put it through its paces.

A couple of questions: first, although there's a phone button on the touch screen system, it says "phone not fitted". I assume that means there's no phone system installed vs. simply nothing paired with it (I didn't see anything about phones in the included manuals). What are my options? Can a phone module be added by plugging into the system controller?

The other question is about upgrading the nav system. The stock system is working fine, but the maps are obviously 10 years old. Are updated maps available? Firmware updates? Apparently I have the "Leaper" splashscreen vs. the "clock", so I assume it's an older system.

If you drop the hush panel on the passenger side and look up into there and see a module with the orange fiber optic lines running out of it, then you have the BT module. Try using your phone to pair because if you have it, the system is always discoverable.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

All recent Jaguars models have the phone controls but very few original owners chose to have the expensive Bluetooth option fitted. The easiest way to find out is to ask a Jaguar Dealer to lookup the factory build spec of your vehicle.
