[CENTER]Greetings to all. Hello.
Been a locksmith in rural Arizona for the last 23-24 years. Originally a Hoosier.
Have had several foreign rides with fairly high mileage. A couple of Volvos, a BMW, Saab(2),a Porsche 914, an old Mercedes 190D. Wife had a '69 XKE years ago, with much rust. (used it to help supply parts to Jag owners miles away). Having current power door lock problems with '88 XJ-6 (177,000mi).
Hope this is a proper place to ask for enlightenment. Driver side exterior door handle is restricted in movement, and inside lock button does not travel up and down freely. Disconnected actuator hoping to just use driver's door on it's own without power. Discovered actuator works fine, but won't unlatch from outside. Still think the latch may be good. There is a microchip (according to owner's manual) that controls the power door locking functions. Thinking it likely failed. Wondering where I could find it, Can one test it / relace it? Must be a microswitch on handle somewhere 'cause I can hear a relay click behind the right fusebox. All fuses are good. Can anyone tell me just what am I up against? Thank you so much!

Welcome.
Those early XJ40 did have issues with the handles, and locks. Usually a build up of gunk jams the works, then the handle arms break, and you start drinking more.
It has been many, many years since I ventured into the daughters XJ40 and reworked all the locks, and replaced all the handles, and I really dont remember the details.
I suggest a repost in the XJ40 section will get you the updated info ypu need.
