Long time lurker, new poster
Hello, my name is Mike and I'm a Jagaholic :-).
Been lurking here for a few years and found these forums handy. Got the Real Gauges and used this site for advice on how to fix a number of issues that have come up. I couldn't believe how fast I was able to diagnose a door opening pop to a cracked door check. Current issue is a rear main seal or maybe just an oil gallery bolt.
Anyway, I bought my first Jag back in 2003 before this forum existed (or maybe I just didn't find it or it was not as complete as today). An Emerald 1999 Vanden Plas with 51K on the clock. It wasn't the car I was going to buy, I went to the dealer with a 2000 Super V8 in my sights, but the price was just too good to be true. Since I was there, I took the VDP for a spin and the rest is history. That car has about 150K on it now and it needs a paint job and the front seats reupholstered. I was scared to death when I bought it, but it has been good to me. I had the tensioners done at 100K and the nikasil block is still going strong. At the time, Roadfly and Jag Lovers were advising 2000+ cars to avoid nickasil, but I could barely afford the '99 at the time. My wife inherited this car when I got the '03.
Jag number 2 is a White 2003 XJR Milan. Got it in 2006 with 38K on the clock. That car has now ticked just over 100K and has been great as well. I believe the first time I seriously looked into these forums was when the electrical connector started leaking and got the lead on the Mercedes Benz part to fix it.
The XJR was also my starter dose into the sickness called HPDE or High Performance Driver Education at the race track. I took it to a Porsche Club of America event at Texas World Speed way and had a ball. It also got noticed amongst the Porsches with several comments of "that's faster than it looks" :-). It was fun closing in on a P-car with a car with four doors and a hood ornament. It has since been "retired" to daily driving and I've got a BMW M3 for track service. My forum name is TXE36. The BMW is an "E36" and I'm in Texas. I know, clever.
Anyway here is some video from the track, don't see too many of these:
This is from a friend following, I'm the white sedan in front of the red Nissan. By this time I was in the upper run groups and the weight and very large polar moment of the four door caught up to her. Note that I turn into a dot on the front straight only to have everyone catch back up when I stop to make turn 15:
