Long time reader, first time posting, and yes a car issue
I have a 06 Stype 3.0 with 100K, owned since new.
I have read a lot of great tips on these pages, and for that I thank you all.
Now, as you might expect, I have a question. I have codes po174, po171...lean on both banks. I have all but given up. I have replaced the IMT (sp?) o-rings, the intake gaskets, the plenum gaskets, have had the intake smoked (not at the dealer), replaced the fuel filter and stared at the engine for hours with and without carb cleaner in my hand. (Although I have now found out that with an electronic throttle, carb cleaner will not change the idle.) Oh, and changed the mass air flow sensor.
I even bought the lower breather hose, from the dealer, only to find the 06 does not have one. So I am really pleased with my dealer selling me this part and allowing me to spend 3 hours R&Ring the intake, again.
Any thoughts?
Again, thanks for all that have helped me over the years, even though you didn't know it.

Welcome to the forum khriss,
Sorry to hear about the 'lean' codes. The cause can be anything as simple as an air leak or as complicated as one of several sensors to ECM fault.
You probably already know the way to the S-Type tech section but if not, follow this link XK8 / XKR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top there is always a good place to start for info on regular issues.
Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You may also like to visit the US Southwest Region section by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/southwest-us-az-tx-nm-ok-37/to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forum.

The P0171 & P0174 are the same only one is for bank 1 and the other is for bank 2. In many of the threads I call them posts you will find that a leak in the vacuum system was found and the problem codes eliminated what we often forget is that it is addressing a lean fuel mixture. FUEL! Check you fuel filter and replace if necessary. I replaced mine the other day and when I pulled it off the fuel leaking out was brown with dirt/crud. The other is for you to add a bottle of BG44K to your next tank of gas. You could have a fuel presentation problem and the fuel additive will clean the fuel injectors and possibly eliminate your issue. All of this is assuming that you have no vacuum leaks. I am attaching a procedure if you wish to look further for vacuum leaks. I hope this helps.
P0171 EMS
OBD II
Bank 1 combustion too lean Start engine and bring to
normal operating temperature
> 82 °C (180 °F)
Idle for 10 minutes
2N
ECM Default:
–
Bank 1 catalyst warm-up
ignition retard inhibited
–
Bank 1 closed loop fuel
metering inhibited
–
Canister purge inhibited
–
Maximum engine speed
reduced
—
Engine misfire
Air intake leak between MAF Sensor and
cylinder head
Fuel filter / system restriction
Fuel injector restriction
IP Sensor fault (low fuel pressure)
Low fuel pump output
HO2 Sensor(s) (1/1, 1/2)
harness wiring condition fault
EFT Sensor fault (low fuel temperature)
MAF Sensor fault (low intake air flow)
Exhaust leak (before catalyst)
ECM receiving incorrect signal from one or
more of the following components:
ECT Sensor, MAF Sensor, IAT Sensor,
IP Sensor, EFT Sensor, TP Sensor
See if this procedure helps.
