Loss of power/X Type
Hi
I've got a low mileage X type 2001. Driven for 6 months like a dream, now I'm getting an Amber warning light with notification "Cruise control unavailable". More important is the car goes into idle mode at 30mph. Had the RAC look at it, No joy! had a diagnostic and although nothing major it did show PO171/PO174. Any member out there car to give me excellent input before Mr Mechanic has some of my money. I'm disabled and find it hard to either get in the engine or underneath.

I answered you inquiry in the other post you put up but here is the link again for the X-Type section

The codes P0171and P0174 usually indicate a LEAN fuel condition causing a misfire. The most likely cause is a major vacuum leak. The flashing amber light is a warning that you are causing damage to the engine. Mainly the catalytic convertors. With the amber light you automatically go into SAFE MODE limiting your engine to 2500 RPM and minimizing damage.
The usual suspects for vacuum leak are brake booster line, PCV hose from cam cover to intake manifold, IMT O-Rings and intake manifold gaskets. Since you don't state any recent work I would suspect a crak int eh Brake booster line or the PCV hose.
