Melted Positive Connection to Alternator

Default Melted Positive Connection to Alternator

I replaced my alternator this week. The previous one stopped working after less than 1,000 miles. I installed it 13 months ago. The car was in storage most of the past year, so the old alternator was beyond the 12 month warranty period. But it still looked new ... except that the housing for the positive lead from the battery was melted. See pix. The nut, bolt and lead were fused together. And the previous alternator didn't last long either, though I don't recall a melted housing. I scoured the Forums looking for similar problems, but didn't see any. Is this a known issue? Thanks! I would ADD your vehicle details to that thread via the edit tab, AND your Sig, via the CP tab at the top left.

I found you have a 2007 XK, others may not.

The Members in the XK.XKR (X150) Tech Section would know, but I have never seen that before, and something is very out of whack I reckon.
