Default Mike from Chapel Hill, NC

Hello everyone! My name is Mike and, as the title says, I reside in sunny, Carolina blue Chapel Hill NC. As my handle says, I am the proud owner of an 03 S Type R, which has about 50k miles on it. I found this forum just as I was about to install the Mina intake--I'd had the same problem others did in attempting to install it with the included heat shield, and was looking for a workaround (remove it, duh)--and so now... well, I'm second guessing installing that part. Does it really not improve performance at all? The consensus on this site seems to be that, because it pulls air from the engine compartment, any benefits in airflow will be offset by the higher temperature of that air. Sound about right? Anyway, I wanted to say 'howdy' to everyone out there, and let y'all know that I'm happy to have found a resource for fixing and modding my kitty.

Welcome Mike - Awesome car - Wish I had one!

Lots of good info on the S-Type forum and, yes, "Sounds about right"...I'm not a fan of aftermarket intakes for performance, but they look nice...Very difficult to beat the factory engineering team on intake design.

Default Thanks for the welcome....

Thanks for saying "hello" guys This site is a GREAT resource! So many of the quirks, creeks and groans I thought were just my car... nice to know I'm not alone. And I've already gotten some nice ideas about modding my Jag in the future (not to mention getting an alignment that won't wear my tires out prematurely).
Talon, whereabouts in NC are you?

Talon, the Queen City is nice, but a little crowded for my taste. Of course, I imagine that helps to keep the speeding tickets down a bit

I'm on the north side of town so I have easy access to some great back country roads for both the Jag and the Lotus - which have contributed to my ticket count greatly since moving here

Thanks!
And Talon, you ain't kidding. Five days after I purchased my R a few years back (I'd traded in my Acura TL), I sent this text msg to several of my friends from my cell phone at 1145PM on a Friday:

Slightly used 03 Jaguar S Type-R: $35,000
Full tank of gas for day trip to Wilmington?: $39.58
Getting a ticked for 92 in a 65 the wk u bought the car? PRICELESS

It wasn't the only one But I've mellowed in my old age. Been > 2 years with no tickets.
