My First Date With A Brit

My First Date With A Brit
Nearing 63 I have owned about three dozen cars in my life. I lean towards the Germans as I appreciate their ability to combine speed, control, comfort and luxury. My current Audi A8 with a twin-turbo V8 is a shining example.
About a year ago I decided a convertible was in my future... I had my sights set on either a Boxster or a Z4. I've been watching Autotrader on and off, not finding what I wanted. Then the lightning bolt hit me: the wife is going to hate either one of these. Nipping apex's and straight line acceleration is not her bag, and I want her to go with me when the top is stowed. So I turned my attention to a MB SL550.... well that seed died on the vine as I projected maintenance costs over the next five years. I don't wrench so I have to be prudent. I don't mind paying to have it done right the first time, yet I don't want to mortgage the future because a hydraulic pump and it's hoses blew a $5000 hole in my wallet.
What's this? A 2008 XKR in the low $20's with around 36k miles? Let's take a closer look. Edmunds - check. Motor Trend - check. Auto Week - check. KBB/NADA sights - check. Hey wait, this is an English car so... Top Gear - check.
Armed with too much research I drove the car and bought it on the spot. The burble alone would have convinced me, but then I tossed it around a few corners and decided this was the perfect blend of comfort, sportiness and charisma I was looking for.
So now I can add a proper British roadster to my long list of American, German, Japanese, and Swedish cars. I am excited to join this new crew, and am humbled that I have lept into a unique and pertinent heritage in motor cars. Cheers!

Hello, Scott,
Congratulations on your First Jaguar!
Your wife and my husband were cut from the same bolt of cloth. When he's with me he's constantly harping about my chronic addiction to cornering Gs and the general "Enthusiastic" nature of my driving.
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
