Default My first Jaguar, XJ X308 1998 3.2L

An old colleague of mine was really into British cars and owned several Jaguars, Land Rovers and other cars. I’m a bit of a petrol head myself. After driving a boring eco-diesel company car for the last couple of years I signed up for a new job closer to home. This meant that I would drive a lot less kilometers a week and thus: a nice car!

Since (like most people) I’ve always liked the looks of the 90’s XJs, and my colleague told me they are actually suprisingly easy to work on and parts are relatively inexpensive, I started to look out for one in good shape, preferably with the know problems sorted out.

I eventually settled on this 1998 XJ 3.2 with the tensioners sorted out. It has a couple of issues that I will work out.
  • Excessive pressure in cooling system (thermostat + pump)
  • Light sagging of driver door (closes not completely right)
  • Wheel bearings + U-joints in the rears
The cooling system I will sort out before driving any further, the U joints and bearings after winter (not that bad yet).

I already love the car!

Welcome.

Another sensible owner, sorting the known for years of fine motoring.

Good luck.

Welcome to the forum Kooper,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I can see you've already found your way to the X308 forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the Europe Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/europe-42/
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.
