Default Needing Help

Hi guys and Girls, I have recently purchased an x type jag 2002 model 2.1 litre petrol v6. I was driving down the road when suddenly it lost power and the dash displayed gearbox fault. I waited at the side of the road for a while and re started the motor, the light and warning were no longer there and I drove it straight home, It seems to cut out when I get to the highest gear, if I boot the accelerator it drops down a gear and will carry on. Also I have lost reverse... Any Ideas please ???
Thanks in advance

Nathan

Welcome to the Forums.

Battery age and integrity is the root cause of many issues in these "modern" cars.

The X Type (X400) Tech Section will have more answers. Remember that NOT all markets got the 2.1 V6 Front Wheel Drive, USA is one of them.

Good luck.

Thanks Grant, I think the battery is correct, I have been told that it could be the transmission control unit or even the trans fluid level. I know nothing when it comes to that. Have called a mechanic but I need to have some Idea when he arrives.
Cheers mate

Welcome to the forums Nathan,

If you are confident about the state of the battery and integrity of the battery cables (multi core cables breaking up at the earth terminals is a known failure) then it's going to take a code reader to check relevant error codes for possible causes.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x-type-x400-14/ to the X-Type forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the UK & Eire Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/uk-eire-68/ to find other members in your region.

I'vgfe added vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. If you want to change these, go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham
