New to an '01 XKR convertible in NJ
Hello - been lurking, even might have posted a question before I knew I was supposed to log in here first.
This started when my daughters approached driving age - I had always kept one of our cars a sporty 4 door, and was driving an Audi S-6 until my older girl was getting her permit - I sold it and purchased a Volvo TC-60 (small, turbo AWD SUV - superior safety rating etc.). We ended up getting her a really inexpensive lease on a very safe and economical car, and had three cars. My next daughter is getting her permit in a few months; I figured we had three 4 door safe cars, no need for any more...we'd share as needed. Then someone somewhere nudged me into thinking about a Mazdaspeed Miata convertible...one thing led to another and I found an older Jag XKR with documented low milage (26K on her!). My mechanic went over her and suggested it was a good purchase - so here I am. Unfortunately, within a short order the convertible top stopped operating, leaked some greenish goo and I learned it needed the big pneumatic hose replacement - it sits now at a NJ Jag specialists, being installed.
Other than that, it needs a little work on the Alpine stereo - the CD changer works in spurts, and one speaker (the left midrange, on the dash) has no sound whatsoever. Found an old box of casettes I made 30 years ago and have been blasting them...the Nav system needs a knob.
Good to be a part of this group, been reading a lot and learning some.
I do have a question; not sure how to get the answer. She only came with one key/fob. I see keys available, ready to be cut, relatively inexpensively on ebay, as well as fobs. Once purchased, where/who would do that work, a Jaguar dealer? Is it expensive?
I also may be in eed of an air deflector - one member thought he might have an extra and has yet to let me know for sure. Welsh is out of stock right now.
So far, very excited to get driving again, getting her up to speed. I plan to purchase a cover as she will be outside in NJ all winter. Any suggestions on that?
Thanks and I hope to "meet" you on the boards soon.

Welcome to the forum Jeff,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
You can program fobs yourself (details in the XK8/XKR FAQ's) but keys need programming by the dealer or someone with similar level diagnostics. There have been a very few reports of US members finding locksmiths with this facility.
From your lurking you may already know your way to the tech section but if not , follow this link XK8 / XKR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.
You can also visit the US North East Region forum by following this link USA North East - ME NH VT MA RI CT NJ NY PA - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forums.

Thanks all
Thanks - seems like many on these boards live their Jaguar. And thanks for the advice on where to look for answers, how to navigate, might ask for more help in the future, and vica versa - anyone feel free to ask me (not too much about Jags yet) but about NYC/NJ, great drives here and in the northeast - stuff like that.
