New to your forum:

Know nothing about Jaguar repairs but have a notion I will be learning soon. Bought this little lovely three days ago in Chicago, drove her home to North Carolina (600 miles) perfectly. Not a problem in the world, surrounded by Bluebirds the entire trip. When arriving at our home and backing down our 10 degree driveway the car died and will not restart. How can one squeak about breaking down in your own driveway in a new to us auto after a 600 mile run through the country?
I thought that maybe, if I got her out of the driveway and back on level ground she might run well enough to get her to a shop to see if possibly it is a fuel pump problem (she will start, but will not get up to idle RPM before coughing and sputtering before dying again) Going to the tow bung and socket I found the bung AND the female receiver stripped. Managed to file the Bung threads clean enough to chase them through one of the rear female receivers, only took one hour, but unless I can find a tap for the female receiver, I can not get her out of the driveway even with a tow truck.
No, she is not for sale!!! She makes our driveway look like a million.

Good to have you here with us at Jaguar forums. Sorry to hear about the non-start issue.
Checking the fuel pump fuses and relays could save a trip to the shop.

Welcome to the forum!

Assuming you have a reasonable amount of fuel in the tank, it sure does sound like a fuel pump.

On a 2002 4.0 liter XKR, there are two fuel pumps. The secondary pump primes the system and runs under heavy throttle. The fact that you are sputtering sounds as if the secondary pump is priming the system, and the primary pump has failed.

There is an easy way to temporarily have the car run on the secondary pump by simply removing the primary fuel pump relay. After 5 or 6 start attempts the car will then learn to run on the secondary pump until your repair is made to the primary pump and the primary relay is reinstalled.

The primary fuel pump relay is in the trunk fuesbox. See the position in the diagram attached. Simply lift up the trunk floor to get access and remove the fuel pump #1 relay. Then try to start the car 6 times. You willl get a check engine light signifiying the relay is out, but chances are you will be able to drive the car !

I do thank you!!!!! Did as you suggested: almost snapped my neck flying up the driveway. She started on the third try without the relay in. I found a local shop that estimated $600.00 to replace the pump. I read in a book somewhere that the replacement of the pump should be around three shop hours. I can not believe that it could be done in that time frame. Certainly it would take me three weeks, after seeing the process photos on the forum. Does $600 seem fair to you?
Thanks a million for your time and advice; saved me a $100.00 tow.

Glad to help. $600 seems within reason.
