Default new 2014 XJL owner

Hi everyone, we acquired a new 2014 XJL unfortunately via inheritance due to the untimely passing of our parents during this Covid year. It was loved, cherished, and barely driven by our parents. The 2014 XJL only has 8k miles on it, and was garage kept except for the rare occasions it was taken out to drive. It literally feels like a brand new car.

Since we obtained the vehicle, not knowing the full maintenance of the vehicle, we changed all fluids - oil, coolant, brake fluids, to make sure all the fluids are fresh. What other maintenance items do we need to be aware of for a car of this age but with so few miles?

Also we have noticed a couple of minor things - 1) the glove box randomly opens from time to time while driving, and 2) there is an occasional message that the blind spot monitor is blocked. Hopefully these are minor issue to address.

Not knowing much about Jaguars, we are wondering how reliable the XJ / XJL vehicles are for the 2014 model year. Are there things we should be concerned about if we were to keep this vehicle long term? Reliability and maintenance are the biggest factors we will keep in mind as to how long we keep this vehicle.

Thanks in advance for your help as we get to know Jaguar better and understand this vehicle better!

A few more questions:

1. is there a way to check the tire pressure for each tire via the instrument panel? I'm used to our other cars that show each individual car tire pressure levels via dashboard display.
2. Is there a way to have the car unlock all doors at once when I pull on the driver handle (will check the dash settings in more detail today)
3. sometimes there will be a yellow indicator on the left / right mirrors...I noticed sometimes there isn't? What controls when the yellow indicator dot shows up on the mirrors?
4. The auto-headlight feature is great, but the auto-high beam can be finicky. Is there a way to disable the auto-high beam feature temporarily when driving, but still have auto-headlight working?

Finally, I really love the F-type (more of a sports car enthusiast myself). Wondering if it would be sensible to consider swapping the XJL for a F-type in the future. What years of F-type would be recommended?

@Jaguardeseo, prior to attempting to diagnose electrical faults, check the battery voltage across the terminals with the ignition in the OFF position using a voltmeter. If the voltage is less than 12.6 volts, charge the battery for five hours at 2 to 5 amps, then retest it with a voltmeter. If the voltage is still less than 12.6 volts, the battery must be replaced.

If the vehicle isn't being consistently driven, it should be kept on a battery maintainer to extend the service life of the battery.

Hello,
I'm sorry to know of the loss of your parents to Covid. Before this thing is banished, I'm thinking not a family on earth will be spared such a loss.

However, it's good you have their Jaguar. Such a car with only 8000 miles can be a Gem. But, as mentioned earlier, after you put in a new battery, then you need to DRIVE IT!! Jaguars, in fact cars of Any brand, do not age gracefully sitting in the garage. Fluids need to be stirred and got hot from time to time, seats need sat in. And, every so often, an Italian Tune-up will be appreciated. These activities will actually enhance the enjoyment and longevity of your new Jaguar.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
