New Austin TX Member - 79 XJ6L Ser II
I just bought my 79 XJ6L Ser II earlier this week. I have been trying to fix the problems as this is now my daily driver. The motor was swapped in the 80's with a Chevy 305 and auto trans according to the owner. The car was garage kept and it shows. There is close to 0 rust anywhere on the car that I have been able to find. The interior is in near perfect shape with the exception of the wood dash, the varnish needs to come off and be refinished. The windows and locks all function great. The owner let me know it has sat up in the garage for the last 6 years and it shows as most of the things that have failed are from non-use.
So far, I have replaced the brake booster, tuned the carb, fixed the brake light switch, redid the vlave cover gaskets, and tonight I'll be replacing the front brake calipers and pads. The hazard light switch was broken, so that is on order and should be here soon. The car is running like a champ. I still have some things to work out so I'll start a list here and cross them off as they are finished.
No dash lights - Fixed - Broken Rheostat
Hazard light switch broken - Fixed - replaced with new switch
need alignment
Replace all shocks
Replace front suspension bushings - In Progress will be here today
Replace springs
Replace fuel pump on second fuel tank
replace rear calipers and pads (will need to investigate, might be able to slide by with rebuild)
Investigate fuel gauge not working
Heater not working, need to find root cause
New items:
Replace Oil Pressure switch
Grease window tracks
Replace oil pan gasket - Have parts need time
Install high volume oil pump - Have parts need time
Replace Trailing arm bushings - Have parts need time

Thanks guys, been working on it. Replaced all intake and valve cover seals on Tuesday. Got the Brakes done, the car stops like a beast now. unfortunately the dragging brakes masked an issue with my steering rack. the bushings were pretty much gone. You could move the whole rack side to side which you can only imagine how well that drove. New bushings will be here today forcing my hand a little early on the front bushings replacement.
Updated the original list.

While I kinda liked the raised letter tires, I don't think the Jag did. Had tread seperate on one of my tires today, luckily not bad to where it would fly off and do body damage, so I limped it into an NTB and had all the tires replaced. On a very positive note the tires seemed to be a major point of my bad suspension. Car drives great on the highway now. More work to do but I guess tires are off the list now.

Good evening... I believe I just bought your '79 XJ. Any way we can connect? If I'm right and it was yours, it looks like it went to a dealership in Austin, and then to a wholesaler. It would be a huge help if I could get a quick download from you on the vehicle.
Thanks so much.
