Default New from Belgium

Hi,

I'm new from Belgium! Just bought a 1989 xj-s v12 in England! It has always been a childhood dream, since i'm from 1973 and saw these cars on the road as a kid... "one day..." i said to myself then!

I will restore car this year and start using it next year...

Welcome to the forum Frederik,

Congratulations on the XJ-S V12. Follow Steve's link to the tech section for help, advice and information. There's some excellent threads there detailing extensive restorations which should cover almost anything you may need to do with your car.

Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Enjoy the forum.

Graham

Frederik,

I've copied the pics here because the link you've given will probably disappear soon now the vehicle has been sold to you.

It looks beautiful.

Graham

Thank you Graham, it was impossible to upload those pics with my Ipad.
It looks great doesn't it?
But it had a few rust blisters in front around headlights, on the rear wheel arches,... Rest is all dry and rust free under carpets...
Interior is perfect except for one window switch. I already bought spare and it will be installed asap!
Antenna is broken.
Small dent and some rust on rear bumper, but twr bumpers will be installed...
It has a new radio cd player which I hate, so I want an '89 stock jaguar radio
Engine looks and sounds great , starts on first turn of the key, good oil pressure and temp. Stays right under N . I hope engine won't fal on me it has 90000 miles on it.
The are 2 small oil leaks, under transmission and under diff...

Greetz,

Frederik

Mustard (you call it Yperite for good reason) is VERY bad for paintwork !!

And fortunately a long time ago! true yperite was used for the first time in WW1 about 1 mile from where I live, close to the mill (where the canadian cemetary is)! Fact is that germans placed cans down and opened them, the gaz spread and wind turned and nearly wiped out their own regiment... The days after they used projectiles to shoot the cans behind enemy lines... At least that's wht I was told...

Frederik,

Very few don't have rust in those areas and it looks very good apart from that. The XJS tech section members will give you advice on the transmission and diff oil leaks.

Check on the forum BEFORE buying a replacement antenna. The usual problem is the mast seizes or breaks. The mast is available from aftermarket suppliers at a much lower cost than from Jaguar.

I agree with you on stock radio - I also like to keep my cars original. For technology, the original 1989 radio (probably a Radiomobile) is a bit out-of-date now. There's a few companies in the UK who do upgrades to add MP3 compatibility if you want to fit the original but modernise it a bit.
