Cool New Canadian Member '01 XJR

Just picked up an '01 XJR about a month ago and have been waiting for our streets to dry up completely before using it too much. It's black on black, 100,000KM, and the only thing I can see that isn't original would be the 35% window tint, but I couldn't imagine it without.

I can already say though that I've never had a car that was so outrageous. Where I come from you just don't see these cars everyday, so I stand out like crazy. It's purely for pleasure, and our climate will only allow about 6 months per year of clean roads and decent weather.

I haven't had a chance to drive it much, so I'm not sure if there are any problems, other than a low washer fluid warning and some odd noises once in a while that I haven't narrowed down yet. Other than that everything seems to work and the car continues to blow my mind every time I get in it.

I'll try and get some pictures up when my account allows.

Welcome to the forum.

Great looking car.

I thought that the picture needed to be bigger.

Welcome to the forum. As your new car is a 2001 XJR, it is essential you check certain things have been carried out in the engine to avoid problems. Perusal of the X308 forum will guide you.

hello and welcome. i would take it you are in Winnipeg by your "wpg". Been in the high teens to 20C lately there hasn't it? Hope the odd noises aren't too much to handle but, help is certainly available here on the Forum.

Thanks for all the welcome and replies..

I'm keeping a close eye/ear on the tensioner issue as I have no way of knowing if it's been addressed in the past. Having said that, a fresh oil change the other day seems to have eliminated the slight ticking I heard at start up.

There's still a strange snapping noise, reminds me of expanding/contracting aluminium that occurs mostly after the car is shut off but occasionally when it's running as well. I haven't really been able to find anything about this in the forum so far, but it's a big forum.

And yes, Winnipeg has been enjoying temperatures unheard of for this time of year, so I've enjoyed a few really nice drives in the past few days.

The car is a dream to drive, and I've already applied a few tricks that I've read here in the forums in terms of maintenance. I even greased up the power antenna that wasn't going all the way up or down, and it's working great now.

I'm glad to have found this forum as it has certainly taken away some of the anxieties of purchasing an exotic.

Thanks again for having me here.
