New enthusiast in N.C.
Hello, and thanks for the forum. My name is Jeff; I have spent the last six years rebuilding a 1991 BMW convertible in my spare time and have replaced almost everything on my 97 Volvo in order to keep it running as a daily driver. I find the work therapeutic. I recently bought my wife her dream car; a 2001 Jaguar XJ8 (base) with 94,000 miles. She is giddy with excitement and I have to admit, I love the car. I already have a million questions though! I will search the forum diligently first, I promise.
The car is immaculate, however the seller informed me that the previous owner had the timing chain slip and the engine was scrapped. The seller showed me the receipt for installation of another engine with 41,000 miles on it that he claimed was a 2003. The mileage was on the receipt, but not the year. I found the numbers 990323xxxx near the thermostat housing which I suspect means the engine is in fact a 1999 model. Everything is clean, the car runs and drives beautifully. The only thing I've had to do is put on a new coil because the one on cylinder three started missing. I replaced the plugs for good measure too.
Okay, this is just an introduction, sorry for being long winded. I type fast and sometimes have written a short novel before I realize it.
Thanks again for this venue and I welcome ANY advice or comments that you may deem beneficial to me as a new XJ owner.
Sincerely,
Jeff P.
P.S. -- I have already ordered a new valve cover gasket kit so I can check the tensioners.
