Default New to the forum, sort of new to Jaguar

Have 'owned' a 1959 XK-150 since the mid 70's. My grandfather picked it up somewhere and sold it to me for $1. I was five. Due to various moves, it's still in California while I'm in Washington state .

Will soon be picking up a 1988 XJ-S. That will have to serve as my Jag fix until I can be reunited with the XK.

Looking forward to seeing everyone else's cars and exchanging tips and ideas .

Welcome to the forum egovreau,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

If the XK150 is original, it's just steadily increasing in value as it sits in CA.

The XK is original. The rub is it was not treated well by the previous owner. The interior is shot - pretty much all of it needs to be redone. Someone tried towing it, with a chain wrapped around the front bumper, which stretched it out. That has since been fixed and rechromed .The top is gone (it's a DHC), and the top frame is bent to hell (seems some kids were jumping on it), and it needs some body and paint work .

Well, I guess the hood isn't original. It's blue, the car is black.

I followed the link you sent to the NW forum... Thanks for that.

Wow, great story! Hang onto that XK-150. One just sold on BaT for almost $150K!! I still miss my XK-150 (sold over 40 years ago) and loved seeing beautifully restored ones at the big Jag festival in Santa Barbara, a couple weeks ago.

Granville

PS I was born in Renton, Washington...

Believe me, I have no intention of selling it. However the idea of restoring it in my lifetime has become an intimidating task. Between a full time job, a new project (the XJS), the old ongoing project (a mid 2000's Audi)....oh, and I can't forget that while I live in Washington, the car is in California. So, just getting it here will present a challenge, then there is the question of where to put it. Enough of the whining though.

During the 80's and early 90's, there was this Australian guy that knew my grandfather had the car and would come around every few months or so to see if my grandfather had changed his mind about selling the car. They guy was offering $15000. The answer was always the same...'No'.

At one point, my grandfather also had a pair of Mk 1 Saloons (could have been Mk. 2, I don't remember) and later picked up a 420. I think he sold one of the Mk.1's to pick up the 420, which I don't believe ran. That was after I went into the Navy and I had only ever seen it one time.

Actually, now that I think of it, one may have been a '57, the other a '61, making it one of each. Both had the 3.4L XK engine, and IIRC, one of each flavor of transmission.
