New Guy - 2003 STR Project
Hi All - Although not new to jags (having S3 XJ6 and 80s something XJS in the past), I've moved on and found a project 2003 STR
I'd been looking for an XJR but came across a STR that had been parked near Portland. I quickly found out that it had been sitting under a pine tree for a year - PO had taken through a car wash and it died.
It has 160K miles, with only one owner prior to the PO who parked it. In fact he never even changed the title over so I'm in essence the second owner.
I've slowly been working on it. Found the TB was seized. Took it all apart and now it starts. Coolant reservoir had a cracked fitting, bought a used one and it leaked, bought a new one and it showed up cracked as well. Still have a misfire on cylinder 3 but I noticed there was oil on the coil.
I'm doing this on the cheap <super cheap> as I dont know the "real" history on it (is the trans dead? will it pass emissions? is the engine dead? was it wrecked?) - I dont want to through a lotta money at it to get it running to find something major.
As I finally unloaded it from the trailer this weekend I found that the whole front bumper assy was held on by self tapping screws (and bumper / wheel well cover / undertray are all hanging now) Nice.
So - yes, I know its crazy to buy a non running / no history / high mileage STR pretty much sight unseen, but the price was right. $500. So I got that going for me.
Here is is after I loaded it up (sorry for the size).
1 year of pine needles
Anyway, I've been reading the STR forum daily and am DL'ing all the Jag service manuals, parts list, diagnostic stuff. I'm totally blown away by the DIY support I've seen here.
thanks
Kendall

Welcome to the forum Kendall,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
As I read through your description, I was expecting to see it was a lot worse.
You've already found your way to the S-Type forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the US Northwest Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-northwest-64/ to find other members in your region.
Good luck with your project and enjoy the forums.
Graham
