new here - in need of assistance!!
hello everybody!
i'm the proud owner of a 1986 jaguar xj6 sovereign, purchased about nine months ago.
recently the "cold" here in north carolina killed my battery - i went ahead and replaced it, and haven't been able to get it started since. the ignition turns and sounds/feels like it wants to start- just feels like something isn't quite catching correctly.
prior to the battery dying, it usually took a turn or two to get it started. i'd have to give it a little gas while cranking, and then it would run just fine. the current problem feels just the same to me, but even now when i try to give it some gas while cranking it still doesn't catch and turn on. just sounds/feels like it will for about a literal second, then turns off completely. there is no clicking sound, no dimming lights, etc.
i had a mechanic (not jaguar experienced) come take a look at it last weekend, and he ran a few tests but was unable to pinpoint the issue. he was able to rule out the spark, tested ignition coil... had fuel, but he was unsure of the pressure it should be at since he's unfamiliar with the car. his final thoughts were that either a thermotime censor or coolant censor along the water line were the prime suspects, but unfortunately neither of us have the knowledge or experience to properly test or troubleshoot.
has anybody experienced similar issues? or have any idea where to start with this diagnosis? i feel like i am just a little lost and stuck at the moment...
thank you for your time, if anybody has advice please let me know!!

Welcome to the forums dnldvln,
Jaguar loved re-using the XJ6 badge on several different models and also liked the name Sovereign.
XJ6 Series III
XJ6 (a.k.a. XJ40)
If you identify the XJ6 version you have, I'll point you to the relevant Model forum.
