New Here, thinking of buying a 3.4 Mk 2
Hi All - I'm Mark, and following the etiquette of introducing myself. I have a XFS currently, and have had two triumphs in my past (a Toledo, and a 2500S). I also have a kit car (Fisher Fury) which is a total pocket rocket (230 BHP, 650 kg).
The reason I've joined is to seek some advice ahead of potentially buying a 1965 MK2 3.4. The car seems in good condition and I'm ready to visit it, and or ask the owner to bring it so I can get it up on the ramps and have a good crawl around it. I've seen cars that look beautiful on top and are a death-trap underneath.
I appreciate that to a major extent, one gets what one pays for, and I accept that. I'm looking for a car that isn't a project but can become my daily driver, and I'll sell my modern XFS.
My concern is that I won't be able to garage the car for a year - it will need to sit on my drive in damp England. Assuming the car is structurally sound, do you think I will be doing it a disservice and potentially introduce the rot if I can't garage it immediately.
Thanks in advance
Mark

Welcome to the forums Mark,
It's increasingly difficult to find an example in the UK that's not either of the extremes of requiring a total restoration or having already had one. I can understand both the temptation and the caution. Far from ideal to stand outside but with a good breathable car cover it should be OK and you must grasp these opportunities when they arise.
Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/m...40-daimler-61/ to the MKI / MKII S type 240 340 & Daimler forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the UK & Eire Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/uk-eire-68/ to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forums.

Dear Everyone
Well, I went and did it - I now have a nice Mk 2, which is currently at a classic car specialist getting a once-over before I take it home. I think I've worked out a way to move things around in my garage so it'll stay under cover. There's the usual raft of servicing, such as bushes, bump-stops etc. to sort and replace, some horrible bird-snot welded patches that'll need sorting (that much bird-snot makes me think there's little penetration there and small amounts of cosmetic bodywork patches that'll need doing, but I'm very happy.
Thanks for all your advice
