Default New Jag Owner

Hi guys and girls. Well this isn't actually a new Jag but new to me it's a mint 1998 XJ8 L the car is Spindrift White with beige interior 90,000 miles. The car was garaged all it's life and never driven in the winter. Unfortunately I do not have a garage and have to park it in my allotted parking space at my Co-Op complex. I do plan of keeping it covered once I find a car cover I am happy with.

Here are the pictures from the ad. I have yet to take my own yet.

I know the pics are not that big but there is not a scratch on the body the interior looks like it's new I do not think anyone ever sat in the back and not many in the passenger seat. The car was owned by a woman who's husband was a car enthusiast and he detailed cars on the side so this car was kept up all the time. I also sent an application to a local Jag club here in Ma J.A.N.E Jaguar Association of New England. Maybe someone here might be a member?

Thanks for having me.

Welcome to the forum John, that looks to be a very nice looking car indeed.

I'm not a great fan of car covers for a daily driver, they go under wet, they come out wet, and then you get the sand paper effect from the on/off on/off aspect on a car that has just been driven. IMHO

Default Nice Ride

Great looking Jag. One of my favorite colors for an XJ8. I have to agree that covers can cause more damage to a cars finish than they prevent. Best of luck with it.

Thanks guys, I guess a car cover is out then.

When I was looking for a Jag white was not the color I wanted but my Girlfriend found a white Vanden Plas which was my first choice and she fell in love with the color but I never found a Vanden Plas that was decent most had high mileage and issues. Not one Jag I looked at S, X and XJ everyone had a sagging headliner. The head liner in this one I bought has a tiny spot where it's starting to go but that was something I knew I would have to address anyway. Anyway I ended up with the4 XJ8 L which is pretty close to the VDP no picnic trays no fluted grille surround or trunk trim and no contrasting piping on the seats but everything else is the same.

I got a 5 year 100000 mile additional warranty on my Jag from Carchex it pretty much covers everything major. Went to a J.A.N.E event last weekend my car got to visit some of it's relatives and I got to eat some great food and hang with other Jag owners. This weekend is the British Invasion up in Stowe VT but it looks like I can't make it.

Here are a couple pics of my car from Sunday.

I have had my car for 6 months now and it's still running great the only issue I have had was a head light burning out. Had the oil done at the local Jag dealer 100% synthetic with Jags oil filter. About three times the price of the local in an out place but I have more confidence I got what I wanted. Aside from a set of tires last year before the winter that is it. Gas price are killing me here in Mass Prmium is about $3.50 and up. I get about 21 MPG highway but about 12 or less mpg city.

I have to say I am very happy with my purchase heading down to CT this Sunday probably the longest trip yet looking forward to it the car is so comfortable it's a pleasure to drive.

Great looking car and enjoy it. regardless of whatever Miles Per Gallon you may get, you cant really measure the Smiles Per Gallon you will achieve!! On that note, I assume the $3.50 you quote is per gallon. Here in Ireland we are presently paying about €1.45 per litre, which converts to €6.57 per gallon, which must be close to $10.00 per gallon when converted to dollars. That and the fact that my annual road tax is just over €1,550.00. So, dont feel too bad. Happy motoring

A belated welcome to the forum John,

Glad the car is treating you well, It's probably time to move over to the XK8 forum now though.

Thanks everyone, I love my Jag I am spoiled now. I am looking into getting an older XJS conv that might need a little TLC for a project and a summer ride.

I forget you guys over in the UK and Europe pay a bigger prices for gas and pay by the liter, I guess we are lucky here. I forgot to mention I add a quart of Chevron Techron II to every tank that adds another $12.00 per fillup. Still cheaper than $10.00 a gal. I think if it ever got that high here I would rarely drive.
