new to jag ownership
Good Evening people fo the forum,
just a quick intro about me and my car. I'm Matt, I live in Bristol I recently bought a 2000 S type v8 and in the last week acquired a 1999 3l v6 with full service history.
I work in Winchester so have a commute of 90 miles each way and the S type is perfect for doing it, if not very economical.
Out side of Jags I'm into early VW stuff, military vehicles and motorbikes, anything else you want to know feel free to ask - I'm hard to offend but I will warn you I am a bit hit and miss with internet access so may take a few days to reply
cheers

Welcome to the forum Matt,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums. I don't envy you the petrol bills for that commute although the Jaguar is a very pleasant way to do it.
Follow this link S-Type / S type R Supercharged V8 - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the S-Type forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the UK Region forum by following this link UK - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in this country.
Enjoy the forums.

How long do you plan to keep the car?

As the 4l was my first Jag, the nostalgic part of me would like to keep it until there is no more petrol in the world, but the slightly less impractical side of me says a supercharged 4.2 wouldn't be a bad thing to drive around in either. Newer, faster, better engineering (in general) and the interior looks a little nicer.
If I end up working where I am for a foreseeable period of time I will move closer, otherwise these cars will have intergalctic mileage by the end of the year

I'm a new member of this forum too, although I've owned Jag saloons for a couple of decades. Welcome to the forum!
Our latest Jag is an '04 XJR with the 4.2L SC engine you describe, along with an all-aluminum body that saves a few hundred pounds over the X308. I can attest to the pleasures of having seemingly limitless power and acceleration on tap, but with your commute I think the petrol bills might become tiresome unless your right foot is more disciplined than mine.
P.S. I work at home! ;^)
Cheers,
Don
