New to Jaguar
Hello, David Newton here, Im 63 years old and I have been fixing things since 8 years old where I put new oil seals in the transmission of my mothers wringer type maytag washing machine.
My 1st car was a 1963 plymouth fury III i bought for 25 dollars at 15 years old , it only had reverse gear at the time and I backed it 1/2 mile home. I made jack stands out of 2x4s and had a old school screw jack and wrastled that automatac transmission in and out 2-3 times before getting it going. you see I helped my buddies change muncie 4 speeds by hand and it was all we had.
My list of cars is 1969 RS camaro lemans blue- 1977 3/4 ton silverado, only new vheicle I ever bought--1980 cutlass brougham--1973 1 ton c30 with granny gear-1985 corvette--1995 gmc yucon 2 door--1989 chevy silverado--19?? vw golf--19?? nissan 300 zx--1995 mitsubishi turbo--chevy venture van--2000 ford f250 granny gear 2wd- -CURRENT CARS 1996 Toyota landcruiser, bought it with motor out and dissasenbled they gave up--2003 Lexus LS430, best driving car ive exer owned--2000 mazda miata rod knock replaced motor--2005 Ford excursion Diesel mild hopup strongest pulling truck Ive owned
and now the 2004 Jaguar XJ8 vanden plas you see there is a woman in my life Rowena and she had a 2008 Jaguar XJ and the motor gave up and she bought a volvo hard top convertible from her dentist but she was always reminisicing about her Jag and so I decided to ger her one. this car is a mechanics dream, they are extremely well made 2004 fully ford engineers, and they have such a terrible reputation that you can buy one for the cheap.
Ive come a long way from the 2x4 jack stands, I have a 2 post lift that easially lifts the 7600 pound excursion 6 1/2 feet in the air.
Ive been on subaru forums, volvo forums corvette forums mitusubisi forums and now this forum, I have fount the level of fellowship always refreshing when you have a group of men rally around a issue of someone they have never met and solve each others woes
glad to be here and I am in sponge mode for now and will be glad to contribute as when I discover new solutions to this nice car
respectfully

I'm rather proud of my niece. Her mother wouldn't let her do anything even remotely dangerous when she was young but now in her 30s, she's becoming a DIY queen, remodeling an old house and landscaping. I started gifting my nephew tools when he was a teenager, trying to get him a jump start on a tool collection, and now he wouldn't know what to do with a ratchet. I should've given her the tools instead. Just food for thought this Christmas season.
