ok, i'm trying again. i'm a new jag owner. i just picked up a 2000 XJ8 Vanden Plas with 78k miles on it for a great deal...at least i think it's a great deal. this is my first british car and this thing is an awesome drive. i'm coming from a 1991 acura integra with 240k miles so...lol

i do have a few issues with the car. first, the driver's side rear door does not open from the outside (that's a US driver's side), 2nd the heat does not work (today's heat index was 105 farenheit so i'm ok with that for now). 3rd, the check engine light is on. i havent checked but i assume that it's got a standard OBD II port. i should be able to check the codes and figure out what the deal is. 4th, this has only happend 2 times, but when i'm cruising at around 70 MPH the computer goes yellow and says restricted performance...it doesnt seem to effect anything, but it's warning me of something....after a few minutes it goes away...i'm hoping the codes will help me figure out what the deal is...it doesnt seem to have any rhyme or reason when it happens...

oh and one last thing...the emergency/parking brake is in a really bad spot...digs right into my thigh...i'm ok dealing with it, my mechanic friend said he would see what he can do with it...maybe bend it so that it's more under the seat...have any of you guys dealt with that?

all in all i'm really happy with the purchase...it's got a little work to do, but i'm ok with it.

anyways, here's some pics

It depends...is that parked in a driveway, or a forecourt?

My comment was a bit facetious, and my attitude a bit cantankerous, surreptitious. "Forecourt" is the term used in England which is synonomous with our "driveway". Yours is parked in a driveway, as is evidenced by the licence tag and the left hand drive. We don't have any right hand drive cars in Ohio, either. And even in jolly old England, your right knee is still your right knee.

Nice car, good luck with it. They are cheap to buy, and only cheap to keep if you are very proactive with maintenance or very lucky when neglecting it.

I'm laying low until posting is more dependable, as others may be as well. I think it is a very nice car, exterior looks in very good condition. All the best of luck with her!

Nice jag!

Nice to see someone new that has problems and isn't whining or bashing the car for it! Most people come on and start complaining about the problems after proclaiming the excellent deal they got on it!

Welcome to the forum and enjoy the wealth of knowledge and humor the young and old members bring!

BTW as others stated I'm sure nobody responding had more to do with the forum being down but the only problem that remains is the punctuation errors.

Whining and bashing is the American way of life. Without it we would all be out there killing each other. Can you imagine what the road rage would be like as your tooling down the highway in your wonderfull Jag and a guy in a chevette or yugo spots you? Oh the carnage!
Bye the way welcome to the Forum.
