New Member. 1997 XJ6L owner for 8 months. Today, it would not start! Turns over well.
Hi Forum members.
I'm a new Jaguar owner. I bought a nice 1997 XJ6L about 8 months ago.
I ran perfect for about 6 months and now I have a few issues and could used experienced advice.
I will post my request in appropriate area.
About me, I also own a Porsche 924S that I drive often. I usually do my own repairs and maintence.
I don't know much about my Jag but hope to learn fast and hope this forum helps!
I live near the beach in central Florida, USA.
Foe 8 months now, I have really enjoyed driving this well maintained 1997 XJ6L.
I learned what a quality car it is and would like to keep it in good shape.
I am usually on a low budget, maybe I can be pointed to a free or low cost service manual for my Jag. I have NO written material and lack some of the basic info on the car.
I am a decent mechanic with most basic tools.
Again, thanks for the Forums and I hope to be a valued member.

It could be a Crank Position Sensor. These are prone to failure and when they do, your Jag will crank and you'll get nowhere. If the CPS is good, the tachometer will crank up to 200 rpm. Look into this, as it may be the issue. This is at the lower front end of the crankshaft pulley at the front of the engine. It has been said that this should be replaced every 50,000 miles to avoid this problem.
I hope this will resolve the situation.
