Cheers to all.
I am glad to have found this forum not that I am going to do any hands work on my jags; however, I am keenly interested in the lessons learned by other owners.

I own two jags
1997 XK8 - bought new, now has 130,000 miles. Normal maintenance and repairs issues except for one accident requiring major rear end repairs...welcome to Calif highways and drivers. I have been advised that there is a flaw in the cylinder liners from this model year and that I can expect them to separate and that the only fix will be a new engine. Anyone have knowledge of this?

2011 XJL- 28,000 miles in 10 months, in general love the car, wonderful to drive, two cross country trips. Typical first year problems, substandard Nav system, touch screen a pain to operate, inadequate manuals, computer locking up, windows not closing, water pump replacement, like others others on this site I have had repeated problems with roof noises. Jaguar of America and my dealer, Jaguar of Marin, have been very accommodating. But now after two hardware replacement excises with the roof and the noises starting again; I am getting feed up and wish I had known this is common ; would have pursued a replacement car.

I have owned a Volvo, two Sterlings, four BMWs, three Porsches and two Mercedes along with various other makes over the years. Jaguar's hallmark and only reason I have been tolerate is the outstanding service at two out of three Jag service departments I have dealt with.
Enough whining from me; I am glad to have found the forum and look forward to hearing others' experiences and insights.

Welcome to the forum.

If your XK is still alive today, then there should no longer be a Nikasil risk, but you will want to check the timing tensioners.

Head into the XK8 section, for tech advice.

Good to see you.

Welcome,

+1 to Richard's comments on Nikasil and tensioners. You should add gearbox fluid changes to your research on lessons learned.

Dealer must have been very surprised to see 28K on your XJL in 10 months. When did you sleep?

Good to have you with us.
Excellent advice above, did the maintenance include the tensioners?

You should add your car details to your signature to help others to help you.
