New Member 1997 XK8 Convertible
Hi, No question here, just notifying forum members that I recently signed up for this forum. I have found a lot of useful information on this site that has helped me with my project car.
I am located in the Midwest United States. I own a 1997 Jaguar XK8 convertible and it is a left hand drive. I am trying to save this car as it was a victim of hurricane Sandy.
I purchased this car from the insurance seller agent at what I considered a good price that allowed me to invest a few thousand dollars in it and still have a fair value for the investment.
Definitely will lose money overall but I really could not pass up this low of a mileage Jag. Plus it may avoid the junk yard. I have not owned a Jaguar before but I have owned a several other make sports cars. This car has 46,000 miles on it and looks like it has always been garaged with no body or interior damage and very little wear.
The water got up to the bottom of the seats. When I purchased the car it had not been started and they could not get the trunk open. They had the owners keys and tried to start it but of course it did not start.
They did not try to jump it. They stuck a large screw driver into the shifter to get the car into neutral so they could move it. So that was ruined. Long story short, I have replaced all of the wiring, including the wiring harness, fuses and modules in the trunk, new battery, new shifter, new starter and new alternator.
Still has quite a few problems that I am addressing as I have money and time. The car now starts and runs but I have not moved it yet as I have it up on blocks to make sure I am done with everything underneath before taking it on a test drive.
I will be posting questions for different items as I work on them. I have found answers to most of my questions just by searching this forum.
Thanks for reading this.
Bob.

Welcome to the forum Bob,
Good to have you here with us at Jaguar forums. You've made great progress so far with the XK8 and it's good to hear the forum has already helped with some issues.
I know you've found your way to the XK8/XKR tech forum with the fob issue so no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the US Mid West Region forum by following this link Mid West US - IL IN IA MI MN MO OH WI - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forums.
