Hello, I m new in the forum.
I have a 1981 XJ6 and I m in the USA about to relocate to France.
Is this an international forum? Or should I join a French one?
Also if anyone is reading this and now anything about a good international car shipper I would be most grateful.
Thank you!
J.

Welcome to the forums J S,
We are an International forum and many French Jaguar owners come here for help.![Icon Lol](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)
A few members have exported USA Jaguars to France and other European countries. Obtaining European Type Approval has become increasingly difficult because neither JLR nor Jaguar North America are immediately helpful responding to requests.
Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...s-i-ii-iii-16/ to the XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.
Enjoy the forums.
Graham

Hello Graham,
So the good news is that for cars over 30years old it's actually very easy to bring to France. You just have to get a certificate from the french federation of vehicles and if you owned the car over a year you don't have to pay taxes either. Anything over 30years old is considered " voiture de collection", so you don't have to conform to the same standards a new car would. The one thing with that is that you can not use it the car for work purposes such as driving people or merchandise.
The other good news is that France as a lot of new laws for climate change that forbid a lot of people from driving in certain over polluted areas and other things like that, but as classic car driver are such a low per cent of drivers in France it's looking that we will be exempt of these rules as well!
Once your car is registered in France you can take it anywhere in the European Union I think.
Now i just have to find a good shipper !

Thanks for the summary. I wasn't aware of the "voiture de collection" category which sounds like the equivalent of our UK "Historic Vehicle" status.
Once French registered, you should certainly be able to take the vehicle anywhere in the Europe Schengen Area without restriction in normal times. Germany has temporary border controls at the moment and the Spanish border is always controlled but crossing was very easy but slow at times when we were in the EU.
The UK is no longer part of the Schengen Area since Brexit and we are still unsure of the new requirements for taking cars to and from mainland Europe. As we aren't allowed out of the country under lockdown regulations, I won't need to find out this year!
Good luck in your search for a reasonable cost shipper.
